Mar is an experienced director of photography committed to grounding their work in intersectionality. Their work seeks to center the voices of black, brown and queer bodies by dismantling status quo of representation and radically transforming spaces to be brave, inclusive and dynamic.
She’s been a filmmaker for 7 years and has worked on dozens of branded editorial, commercial and documentary projects. Her work includes the Peabody-award-winning docuseries ‘Transnational’ and across Condé Nast Entertainment’s editorial brands featuring numerous celebrities.
Mar's own lived experience as a Cuban transfemme inspires her trauma-informed approach to storytelling—ensuring that safety and boundaries for sources are always respected and open for renegotiation. It's this that brings a unique intimacy to the moving images she creates.
With experience across projects of various scales, she emphasizes capturing footage in a manner that best serves the narrative. While working for Condé Nast or other various commercial and editorial productions, she helps creative and directorial teams translate their scripts and pitches into achievable shot lists, equipment plans, and crews.
Having traversed the film world prior to her transition, she excels in challenging the conventional hierarchy norms typically observed in such spaces. Ultimately her goal is to push the envelope in front of and behind the camera.
